How to extract Images from Word Documents (.docx and .doc files)

Have you ever tried for extracting the images from any word document, either from a .docx or a .doc file?

Well, that’s very easy and here is the procedure to do that,

Extracting images from a .docx file :

The .docx format files are XML-based files and uses XML in the background to organize and store the data

The .docx file format was introduced by Microsoft with its product Office 2007. Basically this format is just like the .zip format file, and hence you can extract its contents just like a .zip file, and get the images out – from that extracted content.

In short, just rename .docx file extension to .zip after making the copy of original file. If you are not able to see the extension after that word file, then you will have to make the file extensions visible.

Then extract this zip file to a folder.

Open that folder, and you’ll see that all the images from the .docx file are placed in Word > Media folder.

Coming onto the image extraction for .doc file :

Well, there are 3 methods for extracting the images from .doc documents. All of them are quite easy, however you should use the 1st method if you have got the requirement for extracting just 1 or 2 images from that document.

But if you have multiple images to be extracted, then the 2nd and 3rd methods would be much easier.

Procedure 1 : Launch MS Word by Opening that .doc file(s). Now click onto the resize button (the resize button is placed in middle of Word Window’s top right corner), and drag and drop the image to an folder or somewhere else in the PC, to copy the image in that folder/place. Select Yes if you get some Active Dialog Desktop box(s), and the image will get saved there.

Procedure 2 : After opening the Word document, visit File > Save As, and choose HTML Document as Save As type section.

Extract Images From Word Documents (.doc and .docx files)

Now save that document to HTML format, if you get some warning like all the formatting will be lost and so on, ignore that & save the file as HTML.

Then go to the folder where you have saved the files as html. You will get all images which were there in that Word document.

Procedure 3 : If you have Microsoft Office 2007 or greater installed on your computer, then save the .doc as .docx and use the procedure for extracting images from .docx file as mentioned above.

Enjoy!

Listen To Hindi Bollywood Songs Online on Google Music

Usually to listen any Hindi Song from some movie, people either download it from some free music sharing website or try to find it on YouTube.

But now Google music has changed the way to to listen the bollywood songs.

Google Music
Google Music

After partnerships with Saavn.com and In.com, Google has launched a portal for the Indian Music, where poeple can listen to their favorite songs, almost from all the bollywood movies, a few hollywood movies (e.g. titanic), and individually composed music albums.

It is very easy to find any specific song in Google Song Listening Service. You can apply the filters like movie title, song name, actors’ name, singer’s name, and so on. You can listen to any song online at this page no matter how old or new it is.

Tip: You can use “new songs” query, to see the list of songs, sorted by the release dates.

The only disadvantage of it is, at present the music streaming is done by Flash, which makes it useless for the digital devices like PDA, Smartphones / mobile phones (Where flash is disabled).

However the phones having support of flash could use this service.

As it’s only acting as a search engine for the music, so no playlist support is provided yet. Moreover it is still in the Google Labs, and some more features may be added soon for the public releases.

Till then, enjoy online listening to Hindi Bollywood Music on your Phone or Computer/Laptop.

Share PC Internet Connection with Android Phone via USB Cable

People often have some questions like, “How to do Android 2.2 USB Reverse Tethering” or “How to Share the PC Internet Connection with android phone via the USB cable” etc.

Well, I have up-graded my Nexus-1 to Android version 2.2 recently.

Android version 2.2 includes USB Tethering by which a Computer System can share the Internet connection of the phone.

This is great for those who just want to access internet via their mobile phone, but what, if you want to use your Computer’s Internet Connection onto your Mobile Phone?

This is really ridiculous, as the phone accesses internet for lot of events, and there is no option of using internet from the Computer by default.

So what to do, if you have an unlimited and high speed internet broadband connection at home but you won’t be able to use it on your android phone. Ultimately you will have to spend a few extra dollars to get a separate mobile internet connection.

But here is a way to access the Computer’s internet connection from your android mobile phone.

I think it will take a little time to me, to create an app to do this automatically!

Well, till then you can follow the below method, for which the Requirements are:

  • A rooted version 2.2 Android, with root mode terminal or an Android SDK ADB
  • and, an Android 2.2 (or an older version with enabled/installed root tethering application in it)

Now follow the below steps,

1:

For Linux Users: Nothing to do in this step,
For Windows Users: Install the USB drivers by the Android SDK

2:

Onto the Nexus-1: Start USB Tethering after connecting the USB wire with your Computer. You will probably get the latest interface of the network.

3:

Now, setting-up a bridge on Linux Operating System:

# usb0 is the latest network intreface
# eth0 is the main interface (or a gateway) connected to internet
sudo ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0
sudo ifconfig usb0 0.0.0.0
sudo brctl addbr br0
sudo brctl addif br0 eth0
sudo brctl addif br0 usb0
sudo ifconfig br0 up
sudo dhclient br0

Visit here for setting-up the bridges

And, if you are on windows you will need to Bridge two interfaces of network.

4:

Now setup your phone’s usb0 interface. You have 2 choices:

1. Either execute the following command,

./adb shell netcfg usb0 dhcp

2. Otherwise, type this in your phone’s root terminal :

su
netcfg usb0 dhcp

Now you can connect and access the Computer’s Internet broadband connection on your mobile phone.

Confirm it by opening www.tipsring.com

5:

To stop the usb reverse tethering, first-of-all, unbridge the your computer’s interfaces,

sudo ifconfig eth0 down
sudo ifconfig usb0 down
sudo ifconfig br0 down
sudo brctl delbr br0
sudo ifconfig eth0 up
sudo dhclient eth0

Then unselect the USB-Tethering onto your phone.

You must have Windows XP SP3, as the driver will not work on Windows XP – Service Pack-2 (You will get this error while installing, Code-10 – Cannot Start Driver).

Enjoy!
